Real Heroes Don't Wear Capes
at Headwaters Country Jam

Headwaters Country Jam is partnering with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to recognize our heroes. On Friday June 29th, we will honor our Nation's service men and women. In the past military personnel have been recognized but this year Country Jam is extending that recognition to include our Police, Fire Fighters, and EMT heroes too. This cause is near and dear to our hearts as two of our six principal partners are active firefighters and all the partners have family members that are military veterans. Partner Liberty Zuelke, "There are so many people out there that put so much of their own life on hold for us, they sacrifice so much, that we at Country Jam believe a little appreciation is in order. We sit here under this big beautiful sky and enjoy a weekend of music because we have folks willing to ensure we are safe."

Part of the Real Hero campaign includes recognizing one hero from Montana that has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This year we are recognizing fallen Montana Highway Patrol Officer David DeLaittre. David, the youngest MHP officer to be killed in the line of duty, was from Three Forks and lost his life on Dec 1st 2010 during what should have been a routine traffic stop less than a mile from his parent's home. A memorial park is currently being built at the site of the tragedy, recognizing the 121 Montana law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty. Money is being raised with a raffle that encompasses 34 days with 33 firearms and 1 gun safe being the prizes. Tickets will be sold during Country Jam at the Patty Wagon and can be purchased at many local businesses in Three Forks or by calling Denny DeLaittre at 406-285-3669.

Dave Delaittre Trooper David DeLaittre Memorial Park was started after the Buttleman Ranches agreed to sell about 3.5 acres of land next to the scene where Trooper DeLaittre lost his life after being shot while conducting a traffic stop. This took place about a mile west of Three Forks on Highway 2. This park is a nonprofit 501c3 origination with its main purpose is to educate the public on safety and remembering all the fallen officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. One of the major projects this year is the Montana fallen officer memorial platform. This will be built with special blocks that will have all of the 121 officers that have died in the line of duty on them. The blocks will also include each officer's name, rank, agency, and their end of watch. On top of this platform will be a patrol car with top lights on it. A LED sign will be placed in the car and every time an officer dies in the line of duty in the USA the top lights will be activated for 24 hours and the sign will identify the officer. Three flag poles will be installed directly behind the platform. There are other projects planned also including picnic benches, gazebo, information center speedometer check and large water falls with benches and walking trails all around the park.
